Important Details for Final Camera-Ready Paper Preparation
Final camera-ready papers must be prepared at the highest level of
quality for inclusion in the conference proceedings. All papers must
be: written in standard English, prepared in compliance with the paper
formatting template, and responsive to all paper reviewer comments.
The following details on these factors should be carefully considered
in preparation of final papers.
Papers must be prepared using an IEEE SMC 2011 paper formatting
template for camera-ready papers.
Also required is a 1-page
paper digest (single Microsoft PowerPoint slide) serving as a
synopsis of the paper that will be included in the conference program booklet
provided to conference registrants. The paper digest file should be named
"nnnn_digest.ppt" where "nnnn" is the Paper ID number.
An archive containing a
Microsoft Word paper template, a LaTeX paper template
(with associated class/style files), and a Microsoft PowerPoint
paper digest template is
available for download via the link below.
Download the updated IEEE SMC 2011 formatting templates.
All authors should revisit the Microsoft Word template to ensure that important
paper preparation instructions and conventions are followed (note that they are not
specified in the LaTeX template files).
Page Limit: The nominal page limit is 6 inclusive of figures and tables.
The minimum number of pages is 5 and the maximum allowable number of pages is 8
(Note: For accepted papers, an extra page charge will be incurred for any 7th
and 8th page).
Language: The official language for the conference is English. Less than
satisfactory English usage may form the sole basis for rejection of a paper
and omission of any such final paper version from the conference proceedings.
Authors whose native language is not English are encouraged to check their
papers for proper English spelling and grammar using tools such as English
grammar checkers available with most word processing application software.
Alternatively, proofreading support from a native English-speaking colleague
or technical editor may suffice. Some authors may be interested in the paid
service available at the following link:

Electronic Camera-Ready Paper Submission Instructions
Please read prior to attempting electronic submission of final papers.
Please follow the steps below to ensure successful submission of final
camera-ready papers in PDF format that are compatible with IEEE Xplore®.
Necessary steps involve registration for the conference, checking PDF
file compliance using IEEE PDF eXpress™, uploading the
IEEE Xplore®-compatible PDF file and associated paper digest file,
and finally completing an electronic IEEE Copyright Form.
- Registration:
For any accepted paper to be submitted for publication in the
conference proceedings and scheduled for presentation at the
conference, at least one author must register and pay the
appropriate fee(s). If an author registration for your paper
has not been completed yet, please
REGISTER
before proceeding further. When registration is completed,
proceed to step #2.
- PDF compliance check:
IEEE PDF eXpress™ is a free service allowing IEEE SMC 2011
authors to convert their final papers into IEEE Xplore®-compatible
PDF files (Conversion function) OR to check PDF files, that authors have
made themselves, for IEEE Xplore® compatibility (PDF Check function).
-
to view and follow the PDF eXpress™ procedure.
- As confirmation that your PDF file has passed the PDF Check,
forward the e-mail confirming this, which you received from
PDF eXpress™, to smc2011pdfcheck@gmail.com.
Please include your Paper ID number in the e-mail subject.
- Proceed to the next step only if your paper has passed the
PDF Check and has associated paid registration fee(s).
Otherwise, please complete all steps above before proceeding.
- Upload paper and digest:
Have the IEEE Xplore®-compatible PDF file and completed paper
digest file for your paper ready. Then go to the IEEE SMC 2011
paper submission site by clicking on the following hyperlink:
http://www.openconf.org/smc2011/
- Links for the following three principal tracks for the conference
and for special sessions and workshops will be listed there. Follow
the proper link according to where your paper is accepted
(each corresponds to a different URL).
SMC 2011 Systems Science and Engineering (ID 1000-1999)
SMC 2011 Human-Machine Systems (ID 2000-2999)
SMC 2011 Cybernetics (ID 3000-3999)
SMC 2011 Special Sessions (ID 4000-4999)
SMC 2011 Workshops (ID 5000-5999)
- After following the appropriate link, you will be directed to
the main menu screen where you will find an 'Upload File'
link under Authors. Once you click on 'Upload File',
you will be prompted to select the type of file to upload
(Camera-Ready or Paper Digest). Choose Camera-Ready
to upload your IEEE Xplore-compatible camera-ready paper file.
- Return to the main menu screen (OpenConf Home link
in upper left). Click on 'Upload File' again, then choose
Paper Digest to upload the associated paper digest
(MS PowerPoint file) that you prepared using the paper digest template.
- Return to the main menu screen (OpenConf Home link
in upper left) and follow the 'Submit Copyright' link. After
successfully entering your Paper ID and password, a new page
will be displayed with an instruction to follow
to complete an IEEE eCopyright Form for your paper.
- When the above steps are successfully completed, you can confirm
the successful storage of the paper and paper digest within the
OpenConf system using the 'View File' link.
- You may then optionally return to the main menu for the track by
following the 'OpenConf Home' link in the upper left of the screen.
